The swan lake at North Evia

A very nice attraction for visiting the North Evia, are the lagoons Livaria(plural) at Kanatadika.Livari(singular)  word comes from Divari or Vivari (medieval Hellenic Divarion) .Divari is the common name of the fish pond. The small and large Livari are two coastal lagoons, because of the connecting orifices  with the sea,  the salinity of the water is determined by this relationship and the entrance of seawater into the lakes. The great Livari has surface area   1500 acres 500 of them are covered by water. The depth is from 0.5m to 1.2 m.The small Livari has surface area   360 acres with two water surfaces of about 150 acres.

In the region has recorded 20 different habitats. There are also recorded 168 species of birds, some of them are  permanent and some are visiting the area as migratory birds. Some species are wintering , breed and others just rest .In the region, there has also been recorded 21 species of mamals. The rarest of them  is the otter (lutra lutra) the mikroneromigali(a very small water mouse) and the monk seal.

Because of their position both Livaria has great ecological interest. In  Greece region there are three birds migratory routes .The Livari at Kanatadika located in the middle lane that goes through the central Aegean eastern coast of the Peloponnese and ends at  the east mainland coast in the center of Macedonia .At this air lane there is absent  of large wetland systems. For  this reason, the presence of even small wetlands are very important role in the migration process, and therefore the Livari and nearby wetlands, function as a place of breeding and wintering , for dozens species of birds .
